About the project
Air pollution is one of the areas that needs to be paid due attention, especially because of the negative impacts on human health. Air quality is affected by a number of factors, especially the production of emissions during combustion processes in industry, transport, but also household heating. Local furnaces are among the most important sources of air pollution in the Czech Republic by aerosol particles (PM) and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), including benzo(a)pyrene, both of which are pollutants with serious impacts on human health.
Households participate in emissions of PM2.5 from 71% and from benzo(a)pyrene emissions even 98%. The maximum permissible concentrations of PM10 and benzo(a)pyrene are defined by legislation, Act No. 201/2012 Coll., on Air Protection, as amended. For the above reasons, the concentrations of these pollutants in the air are monitored on a long-term basis within the State Air Pollution Monitoring Network (SSIM) operated by the Czech Hydrometeorological Institute (CHMI). However, this network does not cover the entire territory of the Czech Republic or the South Moravian Region. In the town of Tišnov there is not a single station for long-term measurement of air quality. For this reason, the Transport Research Centre has started work on the project Design and implementation of a network for air quality measurement in the city of Tišnov" supported by the SGS-2 call "Svalbard" from the program "Environment, Ecosystems and Climate Change", financed by Norway Grants, in order to determine the concentrations of aerosol particles of PM10, PM2.5 and PM1 fractions in the territory of the town of Tišnov.
